Roby Walker

Brethern – I have been informed of the passing of WB Roby Walker.

Roby Walker, 73, of Lathrop, Mo., died Jan. 15, 2014, with his family by his side.

He was born in Green Forest, Ark., on Jan. 29, 1940, to the late Basil and Reba (Shipman) Walker. He graduated from Green Forest High School in 1958. He married Shirley Beougher Nov. 25, 1962 in Gove, Kan. Roby worked as a truck stop manager for 30 years and drove for Via Banc Couriers in Kansas City, Kan., for 20 years. He enjoyed being an active member of the Masonic lodges of Lathrop and Kearney. He held the position of Grand Master in Lathrop. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of St. Joseph, Mo. He enjoyed gardening and working on vehicles and lawnmowers with his sons and grandsons and was an avid fan of KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a great storyteller with a sense of humor to match. He loved his children and grandchildren most of the time.

Roby was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Freddy Walker, of Green Forest, Ark.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Walker, of the home; brother, Toby Walker and wife, Rita, and niece, Traci, of Oak Grove, Ark.; nephew, David Walker, of Dallas, Texas; and sons, Darren Walker and wife, Jill, Ryan Walker and Regan Walker, all of Lathrop, Mo.

Grandchildren include Scott Walker and wife, Angelina, and Jesse Walker of Lathrop, and Koty, Damon and Jonah Walker of Cameron.

Great-grandchildren are Wyatt Walker of Liberty and Joseph Walker of Lathrop.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Lathrop United Methodist Church, 405 Center St., Lathrop, Mo. Arrangements are through Reflections Memorial Service in Kansas City, 816-561-0101.
