MoCHIP Jan 19th 2013

MoCHIP—Child Identification & Protection Program: Keeping Missouri Kids Safe!

Event Date: Saturday January 19, 2013
Event Time: 10:00 AM
Event Location: Hawthorne Elementary Commons Area, Kearney, MO 64060

Kearney, Missouri—Jan 19th 2013—With more than 155,000 children processed through the
MoCHIP Child ID program in 7 years, MoCHIP is clearly a presence in the community and vows to remain so! Taking place this Saturday the Missouri Masonic Family will be on hand to further ensure the safety of area children FREE OF CHARGE.
And the MoCHIP program works! No parent wants to believe that the unimaginable could
happen to them, though nearly 2,000 children are reported missing or abducted in the United
States each day. The peace of mind MoCHIP provides to Missouri families is invaluable. The
program consists of five major components—digital photographs, digital fingerprints, vital child
information and emergency contacts, a dental bite impression, and two laminated ID cards. The
photographs, fingerprints, and child data are burned onto a mini-CD that is compatible with the
AMBER ALERT system already in place. The dental impression provides a virtual diagram of
the child’s biting surface, which, like fingerprints is unique to each individual, and further
supplies enough saliva to provide a DNA sample that can also be used as scent source for trained canine search teams. Combined, this five-part process provides a dramatic, time sensitive recovery tool for authorities.
Once the child is processed through the program, which generally takes only 15 minutes, the
parent is armed with a single pre-printed envelope that instructs authorities in the event of an
emergency, something a parent in crisis would undoubtedly have trouble with, and a proactive
measure to combat the time sensitivity involved in recovery. Within a matter of minutes the
MoCHIP CD can be loaded into a computer directly form a police officers automobile and
entered into the Amber Alert system. Girls AND boys ages 11 – 21 are statistically most
susceptible to become missing and the “MoCHIP Packet,” that contains all the child’s vital information, has been tested 7 times that we know of, and resulted in all children—teenagers— being returned safely and promptly to their parents care.
On the day of the MoCHIP event, parents are urged to gather pertinent information about such
as, doctor, dentist, and emergency contact and phone numbers, allergies, medications, and
parent work, cell, and assorted phone numbers. Information Collection Forms and Permission
slips can be downloaded from the mochip.org Web site and filled out ahead of time. Height
charts and scales are available at the event to facilitate the most current details regarding the
child. As would be expected, security and privacy are of utmost importance. All information and
specimens are collected on site, processed and provided to the parent or legal guardian in a
yellow envelope. At the end of each event, databases are erased using state-of-the-art software.
The only item retained by the Masonic Children’s Foundation is the signed permission slip.

Matt Mason Memorial Triathlon

On August 5, 2012, Smithville Lake, Missouri, will welcome competitors in the first annual Matt Mason Memorial “Cowboy UP!” triathlon to Smithville Lake, Mo. Organizers established this event to honor, support and celebrate the lives of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. They were inspired to hold the triathlon in memory of their friend, Matt Mason, who lost his life on August 6th, 2011, while on a mission in Afghanistan with his Navy SEAL Team.

Proceeds from the Cowboy UP! event will go to benefit several charities, with the majority of the money raised going to the Wounded Warrior Project. This organization’s mission of helping injured service personnel and their families embodies the principles of dedication and service that Matt Mason stood for.

“This triathlon is our way to stay close to our dear friend and keep his memory alive, while focusing on supporting others like him and their families,” said co-organizer Steve Zimmer.

To help Cowboy UP! become a success, the organizing committee needs help from the public, including donations, volunteers, and, of course triathlon participants. Anyone is welcome to sign up at the official event website, and there’s a growing online community on the Facebook page.

Matt Mason, who grew up in the Kansas City metro and served his country for 12 years, embodied the best in all of us. He was a son, a husband, a father, a friend, a triathlete, and a teammate, as well as being generous in spirit in everything he did. Strangers felt welcome and comfortable around Matt and always took an immediate liking to him. Those that were fortunate enough to have known him will always remember him as the loyal, kind, generous, unassuming man that he was.

So if you want to help American’s servicemen and women and their families, to honor the memory of Matt Mason and/or to compete in a triathlon at the beautiful locale of Smithville Lake, raise money for wounded veterans, sign up to support or compete in the event today.

MoCHIP Event

Missouri Masonic Children’s Foundation & Kearney Lodge #311

MOCHIP event (Missouri Child Identification Program)

** Moving location **

** New Location: Hawthorne Elementary, 1815 South Jefferson Kearney, MO 64060 **

Jan. 21rd 2012 from 10am to 2pm

No one wants to think that the unimaginable could happen to them, but according to statistics, nearly 2,000 children are reported missing or abducted each day in the United States. Gathering all of the information law enforcement officials need after the fact can be a daunting task, especially under duress.

According to theNationalCenterfor Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC.ORG), a current good quality photo is the single most effective tool in locating a missing child. The NCMEC encourages parents to be prepared by assembling their child’s photos and vital information ahead of time.

MOCHIP is a comprehensive child identification program designed to give families of a measure of protection against the ever increasing problem of missing and abducted children.

This program is provided “FREE OF CHARGE

How does it work?

The program consists of five major components:
1) Digital Photographs
2) Digital Fingerprints
3) Child Information and Emergency contacts
4) Dental bite impression
5) Two (2) laminated ID cards

Together, these five measures provide a powerful identification and recovery tool.

The digital photographs, digital fingerprints and Child Information and emergency contacts are given to the parent or guardian of the child on a mini-CD computer disk. The information on the disk is compatible with the format required by the “AMBER ALERT” program. The dental bite wafer provides an impression of the biting surface of the child’s teeth, which like fingerprints, are unique to each individual. The wafer also collects enough saliva to provide a DNA sample and a source for a scent for trained canine search and recovery teams.

Download forms ahead of time at www.mochip.org, click on “about” The Masonic Children’s Foundation retains no information concerning the children; only a signed permission form is retained by the Foundation.
